500 Internal error

Something failed on our side. This should be rare, and it is never your request’s fault.

Missing geolocation data does not cause this. If we cannot place an IP, you get a 200 with null fields and "partial": true — see the API reference. A 500 means a genuine bug or outage.

What to do

Retry once after a short delay. If it persists, tell us and include the time, your key prefix (the ig_pk_XXXX part — never the whole key), and the cf-ray response header if you have it.

Our honest position on availability

instantgeo currently runs on a single VPS. We do not advertise a 99.9% SLA, because we do not have the redundancy to back one. Availability is best-effort until that changes, and we would rather say so than write a number we cannot keep.
