The free tier is country-level only. City, region, timezone, coordinates, postal code, ASN and the derived currency and language fields all need a paid plan. If you are coming from the old js.instantgeo.info endpoint, note that it returned city and coordinates to everyone — see migrating from v1.

How overage is billed

Per request, not per block. One request over your included requests costs a fraction of a cent, not a full 100,000-request block. On Starter that is 0.0072¢ per request.

Overage is off by default. Every account starts hard capped, meaning requests stop at the included requests rather than billing extra. Your bill can never exceed your plan price unless you deliberately turn overage on.

Spend caps

If you enable overage, you can also set a spend cap — a ceiling in dollars. Requests stop once the cap is reached, and you are never charged past it.

This is deliberately two separate settings. Being forced to choose between “never charge me extra” and “charge me anything” is how people end up with invoices they dispute.

Free accounts are always hard capped and cannot enable overage.

Alerts

We email you at 80% and 100% of your included requests, and when a spend cap is reached. Each alert fires once per billing period.

Plan changes

Upgrades apply immediately — if you are blocked, you are unblocked as soon as payment goes through. Downgrades apply at the end of the period, so you keep what you paid for.

Rate limits

Separate from your monthly quota:

Browsers always send Origin on cross-origin requests, so normal browser traffic is governed only by your monthly quota.
